How may we describe a band how this had worked out. He replied, "Just fine. So far there have been no major decisions."
Now Edward is a businessman and he is familiar with the term "caveat emptor" (let the buyer beware), and maybe it is applicable here because he has certainly sold Kathleen a bill of goods. But this is one time when a businessman really stands behind his goods and he is his own guarantee. We know he will deliver.
Next, consider philosophy. Philosophy is the search for truth. And this Kathleen and Edward have found when they looked into each others eyes. Foolish philosophers search in the sky or in the desert, not knowing that the lovers' eyes.
But let us have these philosophical concepts and turn to the world of sport. Kathleen and Edward are now a team and teamwork is essential. Does a quarterback trip his own halfback? Does a pitcher stick his finger in the catcher's eye? Does a defence man steal the puck from his own forward? Does a forward try to score on his own goalie? No indeed. And a wise captain or co-captain will wait until the privacy of the locker room is reached before reaming out a teammate for errors or shortcomings. People are seldom persuaded of error by being shouted at, and coaching is best handled in gentle tones. Adjustments are rarely arrived at in public and agreements never reached in loud voice.
And now let's turn to science. Marriage is not mutual phagocytosis wherein each engulfs the other. The cellular morphology remains distinct, but a new organism is formed in the conjoining. In chemical terms we might say, this atom Kathleen and this atom Edward have found an affinity and have decided to share electrons to form a new molecule. In new-age terminology we could describe marriage as a rendezvous in space of two happy souls. Or in piscatorial parlance we would say marriage is fish and fisherman caught in the same net. Who is which, I shall leave an open question.
In Canadian political terms we could say that we have today convened a new house of parliament with Edward the prime minister and Kathleen the leader of the loyal opposition.
So you see the union we have witnessed today is fortunate indeed. It has a sound basis in business, philosophy, sport, science and politics.
Let us rise and drink to their success in all these fields. The happy couple!
